Thankful Thursday – Faith

Welcome to Thankful Thursday on Book Notes.

On Thankful Thursday, take a moment to think about something you are thankful for in your life. There are so many things in our lives we have to be thankful for. Even if we’ve been having a bad day or a bad week, even a bad month – there is always something good in your life. Find it and smile.

Today I am thankful for my faith.

My faith brings so much to my life. It helps me through difficult times and increases my joy during the good ones. It’s something I share with my family and has a part in every part of my life. I reply on it to make decisions or when I need extra strength or patience to get through the day. When my mind is distressed, saying some prayers helps calm me down and think more clearly. Going to church each Sunday helps me start my week off right. I thoroughly enjoy the service.

With the Easter season going on right now, my faith is more a part of my life than ever and I couldn’t be more grateful.

What are you thankful for today?

A Week of Mondays

I don’t mind Mondays, to be honest.

I know, I know. Lots of you might think I’m crazy. But Monday is a beginning. The start of the work or school week, the first page of the business week. And I’m good at starting things.

In the beginning, I am full of enthusiasm and ideas and I can’t wait to get started on my next project. It’s easy to make lists and goals and begin the prep work or do the easy part of the project. The hard part is to keep going (that’s Tuesday). Every Monday, I make a plan and a list for the week. I have an idea of what I want to accomplish this week and on Monday, it seems pretty possible. On Tuesday, I’m usually wishing for Friday, and sometimes my Monday goals seem unrealistic.

So this Monday I’m making a new goal, and I’m keeping it.

I’m going to have a week of Mondays.

Bet you never heard anyone say that with a smile on their face!

I promise you, I’m not crazy and I’m not a glutton for self-punishment. I’m not looking for the bad things about Mondays. I’m looking for the good. I want to have a week of days with fresh starts and enthusiasm for my projects. I want to accomplish my list of goals for the week because I believe I can.

Surely I can have a week of Mondays (because don’t we all have those anyway?). Only instead of it being as horrible as it sounds, it’s going to be awesome. Because I am going to start my goals and finish them. And on Friday (Fifth Monday), I’m going to feel good.

What are you going to do this week?

Fast Five

I stumbled across this post on a blog called Rakes and Rascals this morning and thought it looked fun.

All you have to do is answer the following questions:

1. Which novel are you currently reading and who is the author?

2. What is the opening line of the book?

3. What are the hero and heroine’s names? (on the remote chance you’re not reading a romance, give the name of the main character).

4. What is the first sentence of the second paragraph of Chapter 9?

5. What’s next on your TBR pile?

Here are my answers:

I’m currently reading two books – but since one ( The Complete First Edition: The Original Folk & Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, translated & edited by Jack Zipes) is a collection of stories, I’ll use the second book for these questions.

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, by J.K. Rowling (yes, for the millionth time)

2. Not for the first time, an argument had broken out over breakfast at number four, Privet Drive.

3. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.

4Attracted no doubt by Malfoy’s shout, Argus Filch came shouldering his way through the crowd.

5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling OR Home: A Memoir of My Early Years by Julie Andrews

Thankful Thursday

Today is the first Thankful Thursday here on Book Notes.

On Thankful Thursday, take a moment to think about something you are thankful for in your life. Is it your job? Your friends or family? Your loyal dog or the friendly cat that sleeps at your feet? How about the food in your fridge, the flowers poking up through the winter frost or the sun shining on your nose this morning? There are so many things in our lives we have to be thankful for. Even if we’ve been having a bad day or a bad week, even a bad month – there is always something good in your life. Find it and smile.

On this Thursday I am thankful for friends. I have some truly wonderful people in my life. They listen when I’m going through a tough time and make me laugh. They lift me up when I am down and share my joy on the good days. They tell me the truth even when I don’t want to hear it, and are always ready to drop everything to help out. I am a blessed woman.

What are you thankful for today?

Gone Awhile, Back Again

Hello Readers.

Things have been pretty quiet around here. It’s a shame really, because this project is something pretty cool I think.

Of course, it’s easy to start something, but not always easy to see it through. Most of us have busy lives. We have families, jobs, friends to see, school, books to read, TV to watch, creeping on Tumblr to do, scrolling through Facebook…the list could go on and on. There are a million and one other things that for some reason or another have taken us away from our goals here. But that doesn’t mean we can’t start again.

This morning I put 15 notes in the books I was returning to the library. I hope they will spread some smiles and lead more people to spread our idea. I’m starting again.

Who’s with me?
